What is Google Ads?

Google Ads is the system that places advertising in Google search results, on YouTube, in Gmail and on partner sites, where the advertiser usually pays for a click or a defined action rather than for an impression.

Why it matters

Search advertising reaches a buyer at the moment they are already looking for the service, which makes it the fastest channel to test whether real demand exists. For a company entering Uzbekistan or the wider Central Asian market, it is also the cheapest way to find out what people actually search for before committing to a long content programme. One regional caveat: the audience is split between Google and Yandex and searches in both Uzbek and Russian, so a single-platform, single-language account covers only part of the market.

How it works and how it is measured

  • Campaign types: search (text ads), display, video on YouTube, and Performance Max, which mixes inventory automatically — each maps to a different stage of intent.
  • The auction: your bid and the quality of the ad and landing page are judged together, so relevance buys position that money alone does not.
  • Keywords and match types: deciding which searches you appear for — and, through negative keywords, which you never pay for — is the main budget control.
  • Conversion tracking: forms, calls and clicks through to messaging apps must be tracked before launch, otherwise the system optimises towards traffic instead of enquiries.
  • Market entry settings: for a new country, separate the account by language and location, use a local contact method, and check that the landing page loads well on the connection speeds and devices common there.
  • Measurement: cost per click, cost per lead and return on ad spend — not the click count on its own.

Frequently asked questions

Can we start with a small budget in a new market?

Yes, provided the setup is narrow: a handful of specific search terms, one city, one landing page. A broad campaign spreads a small budget thinly and produces too little data to learn from.

Should we run Google Ads or Yandex Direct in Uzbekistan?

The honest answer is that it depends on the language your buyers search in, so it is worth measuring rather than assuming. Many advertisers run both, because Google and Yandex reach overlapping but not identical audiences in the region.

What happens when we pause the ads?

Impressions stop the same day. That is why paid search is usually paired with organic work: one captures demand now, the other builds traffic that continues without spend.
